As it's cold and wet here at present I decided to cheer myself up yesterday by photographing some cut flowers I had been given as they had opened to their most lovely. I started setting up but kept getting interrupted and never finished the job and the flowers aren't as nice today.

I did the shots I took in RAW and extracted the JPEGs first to see if any were worth working on - I quite liked this view as it had been taken just as there had been a mishap, my lighting diffuser fell over and knocked everything flying, just as I took the shot using my remote switch - the light was all wrong, the light from the opposite side had been knocked totally off the scene and the flowers had dropped in their clamp. But I thought it had potential. I was surprised to see the views when I looked at the previews, despite fiddling with white balances the flowers had come out really red, which they weren't and they didn't look this red in the LCD.

This is a resampled section from the JPEG preview, just as taken. Heavily underexposed, wrong colors

Five minutes in C1, saved, cropped, resampled, sharpened. The finished shot:

RAW gave me a usable shot from a mishap. I maybe could have got the same result from the JPEG, but I doubt with quite the same ease or quality of result. I'm really falling in love with RAW.

I would like to thank Boo for her contribution.
